Ramona is already excited to start her fourth grade year at school. Little does she know that she will meet a great new friend on the very first day!

At lunchtime when the class went to the multipurpose room, Daisy sat down beside Ramona. "Okay if I sit here?" she asked.

"Sure," said Ramona. Together the girls tore open their lunchbags. They shared Ramona's corn chips and each ate half of Daisy's brownie. Ramona told Daisy about Roberta; Daisy wished she had a little sister. She only had a big brother. Ramona admired Daisy's long blond hair; Daisy admired Ramona's short hair and said she was lucky to have hair that didn't get tangled when it was washed. It was a good beginning.

Fourth-grade life isn't always easy, but it's full of adventure! Ramona and Daisy share many fun times together: they vacuum Daisy's cat, dress up in old-fashioned clothes, and write a grown-up letter! One day while watching TV, they decide to be best friends. Ramona hopes that they will be best friends forever.
