Henry Huggins lives in a square, white house on Klickitat Street with his mother and father. That is, until one Wednesday in March when a certain dog joins them. Henry had a normal day planned: he would eat an ice cream cone, get on the bus, drop the dime in the slot and ride home. This is not what happened that Wednesday in March.

      "He stood there licking his chocolate ice cream cone and reading one of the funny books when he heard a thump, thump, thump. Henry turned, and there behind him was a dog. The dog was scratching himself."

After he feeds the hungry dog the rest of his ice cream cone, Henry begins to think. He had always wanted a dog and he can't leave this dog starving here on the corner. The dog is so thin and hungry, he will call him Ribsy. He'll call his mom and ask if Ribsy can come home to Klickitat Street…

Henry and Ribsy's adventures together are just beginning!
